This photo has been on my desk since 1997. It reminds me why I work. That I’m strong, independent, fearless. That being connected to people, cultures, and nature is important. It’s why I travel.
The photo was taken on day four of a self-guided hike to Machu Picchu in Peru. Seeing the village in the distance meant we were getting close. It’s probably why I’m smiling. For this trip, I bought the hiking gear that would accompany me all over the world. It was the first of many trips where a friend said, “Can I come?” and I replied “Of course!” That friendship ended somewhere along our strenuous hike, but I’m grateful he came. It would have been difficult alone. And our friction was part of the story. This photo brings back every visual and emotion.
Global experiences change my perspective. By sharing Travel Guides, I hope you’ll create and share your own.
